THE THROWING PROGRESSION

PURPOSE:  To safely warm and develop perfect throwing mechanics that will lead to stronger and more accurate throwing arms.

EQUIPMENT:
Throwing baseballs

SET-UP:  Teams should set up to execute the throwing progression the same way they do when playing catch.  The first drill within the progression requires players to start off just 10-15 feet apart.

EXECUTION: Players should execute the throwing progression in order to obtain perfect throwing mechanics.  Each portion of the progression should entail 10-20 throws.  As players finish each portion they should back up slightly according to age/ability.  Throwing progression steps include: forearm flip, knee drill 1, knee drill 2, knee drill 3, stand up drill, weight transfer drill, open close throw, long toss.   To see details of each step of the thowing progression, see photos/video. COACHING TIPS:  Once the throwing progression is completed, coach should move right into more throw and catch drills in an effort to develop even more skill.

"The Throwing Progression is the best way to warm up safely and develop proper throwing mechanics.  No matter what the age/skill is, players should use this technique when warming up."

-Coach Tim
