REACTION BALL GROUNDERS
PURPOSE: To enhance infielders reaction time and improve their ability to recognize and get a good hop when fielding ground balls.
EQUIPMENT: Reaction Ball SET-UP: Infielders set up as if taking a ground ball, coach rolls grounders with reaction ball to infielders. Coach generally rolls from approximately 20-40 feet away. EXECUTION: Coach rolls players ground balls with the reaction balls. Players attempt to field the ball in the same manner as if it was a real baseball. Because of the physical makeup of the reaction ball, it will most likely take crazy hops, therefore players should seek out easy hops and be quick with the hands in order to make the plays. MODIFICATIONS: Rather than rolling a ground ball coach can throw a very bouncy grounder to the infielder, they can also dictate how many bounces the infielder should let the ball bounce before fielding the grounder. "Unless you play at a really high level, there is a good chance ground balls will take bad hops just because of the fields you may be playing on, reaction ball grounders help prepare players for these nasty hops."
