ATTACK & THROW DRILL
PURPOSE: To teach players to aggressively charge the baseball and immediately throw on the run.
EQUIPMENT: Ball and Glove ATTACK AND THROW As players reach higher levels, baserunners get down the line in no time. Many times players need to charge hard and throw on the run. This drill teaches players to attack the baseball and release the ball immediately on the run. SET-UP: Infielders will take their normal position and coach will stand approximately 20 feet in front of them in direct line with home plate. EXECUTION: Player sprints straight ahead as the coach backpedals and eventually tosses the ball to the infielder as they are running straight ahead, player snatches ball out or the air and immediately throws on the run with great emphasis on executing a quick release. MODIFICATIONS: Coach can also have infielder sprint directly towards first base and lead them with a toss, or even more difficult is having infielder run away from first, catch the ball and jump and throw in the air. "As players reach high levels, base runners get down the line in no time. This drill creates top notch athletes that are capable of throwing out those speedy base runners."
