FIELDING PAD GROUNDERS
PURPOSE: To enhance infielders ability by developing softer hands and a quick smooth transfer.
EQUIPMENT: Fielding Pad SET-UP: Infielders can take their normal position with some form of fielding pad. Coaches can choose to roll grounders from closer up (near the pitcher's mound), or hit grounders from home plate for more advanced players. EXECUTION: As players fields ground ball they will be wearing a fielding pad rather than their baseball glove. Wearing this pad forces the player to extend both arms out to the ball and field with two hands. As the ball makes contact with pad, player will develop soft hands by absorbing the ground ball and bringing their hands in towards their body in one smooth motion. As players field they will also be developing a quick transition from fielding to throwing. MODIFICATIONS: Have your infielders wear their fielding pads for all types of grounders and throws. For example have them wear them for low rollers and choppers. Have them wear them for throws to first and second. "As a former collegiate infielder, I love fielding pads. I could take ground balls all day long wearing them. I feel so smooth and quick when I am wearing one."
