 FIELDING PROGRESSION

PURPOSE:  To teach players proper ground ball fielding mechanics.

EQUIPMENT:  Ball and Glove

SET-UP: Infielders will roll the ball back and forth to one another, players can do this in the infield dirt or in the outfield grass.  Players should start approximately 10 feet apart from each other.

EXECUTION:  Players execute this fielding progression step by step in order to enhance fielding ability and proper mechanics.  Players should do 10-20 repetitions at each step.  Progression steps include:  bare hand, no top hand, both hands, perfect fielding position, R-L field, stutter step R-L field, full approach, ball to left, ball to right.  For more details on each step please see photo/video. COMING SOON!

COACHING TIP:  Incorporate this into your daily practice routine.  Once your infielders know how to do this they can do it on their own each day.  If you are coaching a young team where positions are not determined, everyone should do this drill.

"Executing the Fielding Progression seems like a small thing, but when done every day it will make a BIG difference in your infielders ability."

-Coach Tim
