DO OR DIE DRILL

PURPOSE:  To enhance outfielders ability to aggressively charge the baseball, crow hop, and make a strong and accurate throw into the infield.

EQUIPMENT:  Baseballs

SET-UP:  Outfielders take their normal position, coach can roll grounders from a closer distance or hit grounders from the infield area.

EXECUTION:  When outfielder sees ball, they aggressively charge the hit.  Rather then fielding in an infielders position with body in front of the ball, they field the ball on their glove side on the run.   This enables them to charge faster and instantly go into a crow hop after fielding.  Player makes as strong and accurate throw as possible to desired target.

COACHING TIP:  Players should only execute the do or die play in a game when it is critical to throw a base runner out that is trying to advance.  Since the outfielder is charging so hard, there is a great risk for the ball to be misplayed and get past them.

"If the game winning run is trying to score, the outfielder must aggressively charge the ball and make a great throw, it is do or die time."

-Coach Tim
