BALL PIT BATTING PRACTICE DRILL
ooNPURPOSE: To assist in teaching players to stay back on off speed pitches and let the ball travel into their hit zone. Balls can also easily be manipulated so hitters can practice hitting curve balls. An excellent and safe way to take a pre-game batting practice, especially when time and space are limited.
EQUIPMENT: Ball Pit Plastic Balls SET-UP: Player will take their stance at the plate much like any other batting practice drill. Coach will need to be quite close to the hitter (approx. 15-20 ft.) as these balls do not travel very far when thrown. EXECUTION: Coach throws the ball to the hitter. Coach will need to throw quite hard in order to get it to home plate. As the ball comes out of the coaches hand it decelerates, which simulates an off speed pitch. Player must stay back and allow the ball to travel to their hit zone as opposed to lunging out. These balls move all over the place, they even rise at times, making the hitter really concentrate on making solid contact. MODIFICATIONS: Coach can easily put spin on balls to simulate curve balls. "One day I was shopping for some balls that I could use at an indoor hitting clinic and I decided to try out Ball Pit Plastic balls. I was ecstatic when I found out how effective they were. They are one of my favorite ways of having kids take batting practice." -Coach Tim |
