2 STRIKE HITTING GAME DRILL
ooNPURPOSE: To enhance hitter's ability to hit with 2 strikes and be as tough an out as possible.
EQUIPMENT: Balls, Bat, L-Screen SET-UP: Set up is the same as any regular batting practice drill. L screen recommended. EXECUTION/RULES: Batter steps up to the plate pretending they already have 2 strikes on them. Coach pitches, any time the hitter does not strike out on that pitch, they earn a point. So if they hit the ball, foul the ball, or watch a ball outside of the strike zone, they have earned a point. Player accumulates as many points as possible per turn. Turn ends when player strikes out, meaning they swing and miss or watch a ball in the strike zone. Once a player has "struck out" it is the next players turn. Players should keep track of their points, so the next time they are up they add to their total. COACHING TIPS: As players accumulate more points per turn the pitches get much nastier. Make sure to throw bad pitches (out of the strike zone) to teach players to lay off of them in games. They earn a point if they do. Coach is the umpire, and should call anything close a strike to teach players to swing at the close pitches with two strikes. "Any time a hitter can not strike out, whether they put the ball in play, foul one off, or watch a ball, they are helping their team and putting pressure on the defense. The 2 Strike Hitting Game puts players in that 2 strike hitting situation so they can actually practice hitting with 2 strikes." -Coach Tim |
