TASK HITTING

ooNPURPOSE:  To give player's a purpose and plan while taking batting practice.  To simulate different situations hitters may encounter during games and give them the opportunity to practice these situations.

EQUIPMENT: Balls, Bat, L-Screen

SET-UP:  Set up is the same as any regular batting practice drill.  L screen recommended.

EXECUTION:  Players steps up to to hit and coach gives the hitter a task or an objective for each few pitches.  For example coach may say, "hit to opposite" field, player then attempts to hit the next few pitches to opposite field.  The coach gives a new task, for example "hit and run" player then tries to hit all pitches on the ground.  This process is continued through the batting practice round.

COACHING TIPS:  Here are some ideas for task hitting:  Opposite Field, Back into the L Screen, Pull the Ball, Hard on the ground, 2 strike hitting, 3-2 hitting, Hard hit,  To the Outfield, Squeeze bunt, Etc.

"
One of the biggest mistakes players make is taking batting practice without an objective, coaches should give their players a task to execute in order to make batting practice sessions more effective."
