GRAB THE $ AND RUN DRILL

PURPOSE:  To effectively teach players how to get a good start when stealing a base.

EQUIPMENT:  Baseball Caps

SET-UP:  Player gives coach their baseball cap.  Player takes lead and gets in base stealing position.  Coach holds baseball cap about 12 inches out in front of the base stealers right shoulder.

EXECUTION:  When coach says go, player begins their break by reaching their left hand up and grabs the cap out of the coaches hand, they immediately rip down and use this motion to jumpstart their run as their left foot crosses in front of their right.  The grabbing of the hat is a quick motion as if the player is stealing a bag of money and taking off.

COACHING TIP:  Rather than saying "go" have your players watch a pitcher go through the stretch and practicing going when the pitcher picks up their front leg.

"Getting a good jump is crucial to stealing bases, make sure your players start off the right way by implementing this drill in practice."

-Coach Tim
