FIELDERS VS. RUNNERS DRILL
PURPOSE: Put your players in a game like situation and have your players practicing making that force out before the runner gets to the base, a great drill for fielders and runners.
EQUIPMENT: Softie Baseballs, Base(s) SET-UP: Coach has players form 2 lines. One line are for fielders and they line up in the infield where the first baseman would position themselves. The other line is at home plate, these are the runners. EXECUTION: Coach rolls/hits grounder to first baseman. As soon as ball is rolled/hit the runner takes off towards first base. The fielder attempts to make the play, and run over to first to tag the base before the runner gets there. MODIFICATIONS: Have fielders position themselves as a 2nd baseman/shortstop/3rd baseman and have runners start at 2nd/3rd to mix it up. COACHING TIP: Use this drill as an opportunity to teach your runners to run through the bag and your fielders to step on the bag in a way that they will avoid collisions with runners. "Almost all outs in Tee Ball are force outs, prepare your players for this play by having them practice when there are real runners trying to get to the base safely."
