AGILITY POP UP DRILL

PURPOSE:  To enhance infielders ability to make plays on pop ups. To increase quickness and agility.

EQUIPMENT:  Glove, Ball, 2 poly spots of different colors

SET-UP: Coach should set up two poly spots in the infield approximately 15 feet apart.  Players should position themselves between the two poly spots in  a ready position.

EXECUTION:  Coach throws or hits pop up to infielder.  Once the ball is hit or thrown, coach yells out a color.  The infielder must run and touch that color with their foot, then attempt to get under the pop up and make the catch.  As players execute this drill they will certainly be challenged as directional changes and locating the ball in the sky are essential.

MODIFICATIONS:  As players improve, coach can increase difficulty by rearranging the poly spots.  It can be made much more challenging if the spots are in the front and back of the infielder as opposed to the sides.  Add a third color?

"Pop Ups are not always easy plays, Agility Pop Ups can really challenge players in practice so when they encounter difficult pop ups in games, they are prepared."

-Coach Tim
