 CHAIR EXTENSION DRILL

PURPOSE:  To increase pitchers ability to extend towards home plate when delivering pitches.

EQUIPMENT:  Baseballs and Chair

SET-UP:  Pitcher places back leg on a  chair and lines up front leg directly with home plate.  Catcher/Target is typically about 2/3 the actual pitching distance.  A little leaguer whose mound is 45 feet away would do this drill from 30 ft.

EXECUTION: Pitcher throws to catcher/target with their back leg on the chair.  As they throw,  pitcher focuses on extending out towards home plate much ahead of their lead leg and releasing the ball.

COACHING TIP:  If you don't have a chair at practice you can use a bucket, it may tip occasionally, but it is a great alternative.

"Because of having their back leg up on a chair, pitchers can really feel how to extend out towards home plate when executing this drill."

-Coach Tim
