POWER SOFT TOSS DRILL

PURPOSE:  To teach players to accelerate the bat through the baseball to develop more power.

EQUIPMENT:  Heavy Balls (Power Balls, Playground Balls, Basketballs)

SET-UP: Coach should gather a few heavy balls.  Player takes stance at plate and prepares to hit soft tosses given by coach.  Hitters can hit into net/fence or out into the open field.

EXECUTION:  Coach delivers soft toss to hitter.  Hitter concentrates on accelerating the bat through the ball.  Player may notice that upon contact the bat will lose speed and may even bounce back.  Player should focus on hitting through the baseball.

COACHING TIP:  Have players work on driving the ball up the middle and to opposite field.  If a player can hit a home run over the centerfield fence they will likely have power to all fields.

"This drill definitely ranks among players FAVORITES.  I have seen many players who seemed to just be trying to make contact learn to hit the ball with some authority."
